4th Young Researchers National Conference on Water & Environment with a focus on “Urban WASH”

Water is a key driver for economic and social development of any country. It has a basic function in maintaining the integrity of the natural environment and is also linked to other vital natural resources; hence it is imperative that water issues cannot be resolved in isolation. Due to this fact, the worldwide integrated approach for managing water resources and environment issues is adopted and acknowledged at all levels.

Thus, knowing the importance of sustainable management of water and environmental related issues in Pakistan. USPCAS-W, MUET jointly with USAID’s Water Governance and Capacity Building (WGCB) Support Activity is organizing a two-Day Conference on Water and Environment with special focus on “Urban WASH”.The conference is aimed at bringing together people with a common interest or background to allow them to meet one another and to learn about and discuss issues, ideas and develop strategic guidelines towards topics of mutual concern.

Sindh Government’s Municipal Services Program financed by USAID/Pakistan is one key intervention in the province of Sindh which is aimed to improve the municipal services of six towns of Sindh – especially in Jacobabad. USAID’s Water Governance and Capacity Building Support Activity is meant to provide technical assistance to Municipal Committee Jacobabad and Sindh Local Government Department to create a model of sustainable municipal services for replication in secondary cities of the province. USAID awarded the contract of “Water Governance and Capacity Building Support Activity” to HANDS Pakistan to implement WGCB activities.

About The Center

4th Young Researchers National Conference on Water & Environment with a focus on “Urban WASH”

Knowing the importance of water for sustainability of life under current climate change scenario, U.S. - Pakistan Centers for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) was established at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) Jamshoro, with the financial support of United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Pakistan under the Cooperative Agreement signed with USAID on December 12, 2014 for five years. The University of Utah (UU), USA provided technical assistance to MUET for advancing the development and growth of USPCAS-W.

Aim of Conference

4th Young Researchers National Conference on Water & Environment with a focus on “Urban WASH”

The aim of this conference is to provide an ideal academic platform to young researchers and scholars from all over the country to present, share and exchange their latest findings about water and environment related issues. The papers on different themes of the conference will be presented in parallel sessions to provide opportunities to delegates throughout the country to share their scholarly knowledge, skills, experience and expertise with focus on water, environmental and communal challenges facing our current and future generation. The targetted Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the conference are: Goal No. 1, 2, 6 and 13

Graduate students and young researchers are invited and encouraged to submit their research papers for presentation.
